Final Assignment:ICAROS Health Project

Post 1: Project Development Process

Project Development Process: FlexiHeal Spatial Design
The development of the FlexiHeal spatial design was an in-depth and collaborative effort. Our journey began with a brainstorming session led by Angel, where we outlined the concept and objectives of the project. Our primary aim was to design a versatile, user-friendly space that meets the needs of both patients undergoing physiotherapy and healthcare professionals.

Design Thinking Process

  1. Idea Generation
We started by identifying the core requirements for the physical space, focusing on functionality and creating a welcoming environment. Our goal was to design a space that enhanced patient experience while optimizing treatment effectiveness.

  2. Pitching and Feedback
After drafting initial designs, we presented them to Professor Chong, who provided valuable feedback, particularly on the spatial layout. We also pitched our concept to our program director, Yusri, who suggested improvements to enhance the space's aesthetics.

  3. Task Delegation
After incorporating feedback, Angel delegated tasks among team members. My responsibility was to create the 3D model of the space with Riona's assistance. We drew inspiration from the minimalist yet elegant design of Apple stores, incorporating wood materials for a modern and calming feel.

  4. 3D Modeling
Challenges arose as we determined room sizes, equipment placement, and whether to include additional features like a playground or cafรฉ. These decisions required extensive discussion and careful planning to align with our objectives.

  5. Final Design
The finalized design included the following spaces:

    • A waiting room with Acupressure Boards and a seating area offering tea and snacks.
    • A dedicated ICAROS Pro room for specialized rehabilitation.
    • An immersive room with motion detection technology.
    • A connected gym.
    • A hospital bed room, smaller curtained spaces with beds and desks, and a disability-friendly toilet.
  6. Rendering Process
The final step of rendering posed a significant challenge due to time constraints. To overcome this, we opted to use screen recording software to capture camera movements within Blender. While not as refined as a standard render, it was a practical solution given the circumstances.

Post 2: Reflection and Learnings

Reflection on the FlexiHeal Spatial Design Project

The FlexiHeal project was a rewarding experience filled with collaboration, challenges, and continuous learning. Reflecting on the journey, I have gained several key insights that will guide future projects.

Key Learnings

  1. Importance of Feedback
Receiving feedback from Professor Chong and Program Director Yusri was crucial in refining our design. Their suggestions highlighted areas we hadn't considered, demonstrating the importance of external perspectives in improving our work.

  2. Effective Team Collaboration
Working closely with Riona on the 3D modeling aspect reinforced the significance of teamwork. Sharing ideas and leveraging each team member's strengths allowed us to overcome challenges more efficiently.

  3. Design Adaptability
Adapting our design in response to feedback and unforeseen challenges taught me the value of flexibility. Reassessing and modifying our plans ensured we achieved the best possible outcome.

  4. Attention to Detail
The project underscored the importance of meticulous planning. Every aspect—color palette, materials, room dimensions—played a vital role in creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing design.

  5. User-Centered Design
Focusing on the needs of patients and doctors was central to our approach. The process highlighted the importance of user-centered design in creating accessible and practical solutions for end-users.

  6. Time Management
Encountering delays during the rendering process taught me to allocate more time for critical stages in future projects. This experience will help me better manage deadlines and avoid similar issues.

Conclusion
The FlexiHeal project was an invaluable experience that deepened my understanding of spatial design and its practical applications. It emphasized the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and user-centered design while teaching me to plan more effectively for future projects.
