Week 10 Blog: Exploring Voice Recording and Audio Production

This week, we embarked on an exciting new challenge: recording our own voice reading a provided script. The script I chose was Online Travel Websites, which targets young adults, families, and tech-savvy decision-makers. The vocal direction required a sympathetic, easy-going, and inviting tone, which made the experience even more engaging as I had to focus on bringing life to the narration.

Execution and Experience

Recording my voice felt like stepping into a voice actor's shoes. I focused on clarity, tone, and pacing to ensure the delivery was inviting and relatable. After recording, I imported the audio into the software and began working on refining it. I added a soft, uplifting background music track to match the theme of effortless travel planning, enhancing the overall feel of the narration.

Feedback and Adjustments

After submitting my recording, my lecturer provided constructive feedback:

  1. Equalization (EQ): I was advised to play with the EQ settings to better balance the frequencies and enhance the overall clarity of my voice.
  2. Noise Reduction: The recording contained some background noise that needed reduction to improve quality.
  3. Muffled Audio: The voice sounded slightly muffled, so adjustments to the mid and high frequencies were suggested to make it sound crisper and more professional.

This feedback was incredibly valuable as it helped me learn how to fine-tune a recording for better sound quality.

Key Takeaways

This task was a rewarding experience because it wasn’t just about recording—it involved applying post-production techniques to polish the audio. I learned how to:

  • Balance audio levels and frequencies using EQ.
  • Reduce background noise for a cleaner sound.
  • Match the background music to the mood of the script.

By the end of this exercise, I felt more confident in voice recording and post-production, gaining skills that will undoubtedly come in handy for future audio projects.

Looking forward to the next challenge!
