Reflection Post 3: The Role of External Tutorials and Resources in My Process
While working on my project, I quickly realized how crucial external resources—especially tutorials—were in helping me solve specific problems. As an individual working on a complex animation project, I didn’t have anyone to consult in person, so online tutorials became my go-to source for guidance.
One of the most helpful resources I found was a series of Blender tutorials on YouTube that walked me through the process of animating a mechanical object. Since my project involved a machine that lifted and moved a board, these tutorials provided the perfect foundation for understanding how to animate mechanical movements, including the use of constraints and keyframes.
Beyond technical tutorials, I also sought advice from online communities, such as Blender forums and Discord groups. There, I could ask for specific feedback on my work, especially when I was stuck on certain elements like smooth transitions or weight painting. Having access to these communities gave me the opportunity to troubleshoot my animation issues in real time, which was invaluable in pushing my project forward.
However, while tutorials and communities were immensely helpful, I also learned the importance of critical thinking. I didn’t simply follow the tutorials step by step; I took what I learned and adapted it to fit my project’s unique needs. For example, I modified the rigging process to suit my own character design and used a different logo to personalize the project. This creative adaptation allowed me to take the knowledge I gained from others and make it my own.
In the end, the combination of online tutorials, community feedback, and my own creativity allowed me to solve the challenges I faced during the project and grow as an animator.
